Navan Ahoy
Jun. 16th, 2003 10:05 amSo, I am feeling better. Thank you to all the folks that sent well-wishes. I'm a little peeved because I didn't make it out to the Ulster History Park, which was one of my big destinations. Grr....
I'm in Armagh right now, and leaving to go back to Dublin today. I liked Armagh a lot. It's the ecclesiastic capitol of Ireland, and has a really good, friendly atmosphere. It also has lots of puns (there's two restaurants next to each other called "Our Ma's" and "Tom's Plaice" (plaice being the fish commonly used for fish and chips. guess what they sell at Tom's Plaice). I finally found some food that I liked -- Pizza ;> -- and my trip out to Navan was great. The place was deserted the entire time I was there. I got some great photos of the rock quarry that was threatening the site back in the 80's (this was a very important event in Navan's history, as the rock quarry threat caused a bunch of different interests to band together to preserve Navan). I got some good information on what is going on with the site and the heritage center, including why it closed and who is working to get it back open. All sorts of great and useful stuff. I also found lots of fox holes in the earthworks surrounding the sites (hee!), and my companion as I perched on top of Navan, Emain Macha, ancient seat of the Kings of Ulster, home to King Conchobair and Cu Chulainn, was a butterfly (or it might have been a moth, but hopefully not the ravenous dream-sucking variety of moth) I got pictures of the butterfly/moth. It was very pretty.
So, I'm heading to Dublin today. I'm going to be meeting up with some close friends of mine who happen to be visiting Ireland right now. They're part of my posse from Penn Singers, David, Shilpa, Ruth and Dom (well, Dom wasn't a Singer, but he's part of the posse anyways). Ruth was my roommate at Penn, and I shared a board position with Ruth my first year and Shilpa my second year. David was our president that first year (and local color the next year). For those of you who have heard about my Spring Fling experience, these were the people I went with (there were a few others, but most of them just wanted to have sex in my room)
So, needless to say I am very excited to see them again, and we will doubtless have lots of fun, a least some of which will involve guiness.
And then I'm coming home on Thursday, and my fox boy has promised me that he will squeeze me until little cartoon hearts and exclamation points pop out of me.
Whee!!!
