I'm going to vote this morning (early voting, in both senses of the term), but first I'm signing up for NaNoWriMo. I pulled some oracle cards on this to help me narrow down what would be the best project for me to work on, and here's what I came up with:

Of course, all this may be moot if Obama loses on the 4th, and I go spiraling into a pit of despair worse than anything since… I can't even recall when (not even 9/11 will have been as bad).

Please, let my birthday curse not go into effect. Please!

Right. Off to vote. One small step for Alyc, one giant leap for Alyc-kind.

Sarah Who?

Like many people, I've been wondering who the heck this Sarah Palin woman is. It seems obvious from first glance that she's been picked to snabble up some special interest votes -- like woman (cue rabid screaching about women being a "special interest" category here). I... can't even begin to go into how wrong this whole mentality is. It pushes gender politics back twenty years, rather than progressing it. I want a qualified *person*. I don't think gender blindness is a good thing, but I think gender myopia is even worse. I'd like to think that if I was a pro-gun, pro-life, pro-creationism, pro-oil, anti-homosexual special interest, I'd be equally as insulted to be so obviously and clumsily pandered to. But then, I'm an optimist like that.

I've done the usual google searches, but the most interesting and informative perspective I've run into so far is from an Alaskan blogger here: http://mudflats.wordpress.com/2008/08/29/what-is-mccain-thinking-one-alaskans-perspective/.

I was particularly interested to learn more about the town of Wasilla, where she was mayor until two years ago. It's got a population of 5,500 strong, which makes it about the size of Ellettsville, Indiana (pop. 5,589).

Elletsville, people! This is the executive experience that trumps Obama's? Even more disheartening, this is the best woman the Republican Party could come up with?

Screw this noise. I'm gonna change my political ideologies and run for mayor of Ellettsville. From there, it's a four-year straight shot to the White House. I can keep up the façade for four years. Then we'll see some real change. See you all in 2012! (Y'know, if the Mayan Apocalypse doesn't get us first).
