The Start of Summer
May. 10th, 2004 11:36 amFor all of you who *don't* read Neil Gaiman's blog, check out this link for something truly surreal. I think (and the japanese experts amongst us may be able to verify and explain) that there is a play on words going on here, and that Kikkoman is a soy sauce, but that "kikko" has some other meaning, possibly to do with cats or fish? And that therefore "Kikko"man could be a fishheaded superhero who defeats all other condiments? I dunno, but that would be my anthropological guess. Anyone who could shed more light on the subject would be appreciated. You could cc' Neil Gaiman on it, which he would probably also appreciate (assuming several hundred of his nihonophile fans haven't already)

So, summer is officially started. After spending two days recouping from the party (and I didn't even catch a buzz, but I was awake until about 8:00 am cleaning up and not eating bad Dennys) I think I'm ready. According to the fae, its going to be a "Lady of the Harvest" summer, which is about the joys and griefs that come with ending things and mourning them properly before moving on. This makes sense, given that I'm working on finishing up my time here at IU, and that there will be a lot of adjustments and compromises that need to be worked out as a result. It also means that ancientwisdom and I may be working on slightly different emotional levels since his summer is to be an Exstasis summer (he's so bursting with the woot. And after all his hard work and lessons learned, he really deserves to have a summer of unleashed enthusiasm). So, if I'm not around much this summer, or am a little emotionally distant, just know that it is because I'm in the process of a life-changing death.
On happier news (for me at any rate), I'm going to be working on a transcription project that looks to be incredibly interesting and useful for me. When I originally applied, it was just a thing for extra money, but then I found out that the woman I'm going to be transcribing for is doing her dissertation on African-American diaspora heritage tourism in Ghana, which is very similar to my own project. I'll be transcribing her interviews with tour guides, which will be interesting primary material for me to be going through. I'll also get a first-hand look at her research design and methodologies, which will be helpful in designing my own later. So, all-in-all, happy synchronicity there.
And on that note, ancientwisdom is out of the shower, and I have to go to lunch with the social context folks.
