Send out the Dancing Lemurs!!
Apr. 9th, 2004 11:10 amYesterday, Condoleezza Rice testified regarding the government's knowlege of and reaction to 9/11. Today in U.S.A. Today's National news section, we have the following stories:
Texas woman who killed her two sons says God told her to do it, and was surprised when the eldest didn't rise from the dead on his 9th birthday.
Walt Disney World employee accused of molesting a 13-year-old girl and her mother while dressed as Tigger.
9-year-old girl arrested for stealing a rabbit.
Man claiming to be God kills 9 of his children.
Check this link for a full run of the articles.

You'll notice that in the *National News Section* there is nothing about anything of importance to the nation, and that many of the stories seem like local or even offbeat stories. There is one article on Rice's testimony in the Washington section.
Makes me wonder what's going on that they're trying to distract us from. I'm going to go check out the international papers now to see if I can find out.
More and more, my country scares me.

Date: 2004-04-09 10:21 am (UTC)It was a shocking thing for me to come to the realization, that unless we do something, things might not just turn out okay.

The dude asks her whether the govt was warned in a particular bulletin that terrorist actions might occur in the U.S. Rice said, no that bulletin was a historical document, and they knew of terrorist threats *outside* the U.S. So the guy asks her if she recalls the title of the bulletin. She says without missing a beat "Osama bin Laden determined to attack within the U.S."
Sigh.
Or asked about whether the govt had been given a suggested plan for dealing with this threat...she said no, they had received a list of "actionable items." WTF??? I'm sorry, I guess I'm retarded, cause I could have *sworn* that a possible definition of "plan" was "actionable items."
Double sigh.
Oh, and the reruns are on at 6 tonight, but I guess with the Interlude, that's a no go.

Date: 2004-04-09 01:55 pm (UTC)I listened to Condi Rice on the way into SD on Thursday morning. What got to me the most was how she blamed "structural problems" for the entire Government's ability to miss any number of clues as to the terrorsits plans.
It was like she was doing PR for the Patriot Act and the Dept. of Homeland Security (which she referenced was helping to solve the "structural problems" )The root of these structural problems she said was our country's historical, cultural, and therefore legal problems with (she did not say, but implied repeatedly) roaming wire taps, sneak and peak warrants, secret courts, lack of habeus corpus, the ablity of the FBI or CIA or Dpt Homeland Sec. to Spy on ordinary American citizens and compile infomration as to the books they read at the library, movies they watch, food they buy, and groups the associate with. Yep we American use to have a problem with BIG government peering into our personal lives, we once saw our sevles as rugged individualists that did not not need watching over by our government. But not anymore! Nope, those were all luxuries we can no longer afford, because if the Government cant indefinetly detain legal immigrants, or require the men of every Islamic country who live here in the United States to register with the Dept. Of Homeland Security Immigration Service (formerly INS) then by god the terrorists will win!
I know I have stopped posting about these things on my LJ, but that is because I am so Overwhelmed by it all I don't know where to start anymore. So I am going to go read the documentation of Eisenhower's Coup against Guatemala (back when we were afraid the communists, oh times were simpler then)
