So, a few other random reflections and thoughts:

On Irish Schoolgirls--
Irish Schoolgirls are scary. They look vaguely like your average catholic schoolgirl, except they all have this dark, goth-grunge, punky-angst look going for them. And they wear these huge, scary, black combat oxfords. I would not want to meet an Irish schoolgirl in a dark alley.

On Irish Schoolboys--
Irish schoolboys, on the other hand, are adorable. They all look slightly cowed by their female counterparts. Their ears all stick out slightly and their freckles seem to float on the surface of pale skin. I have recently agreed to be the valentine of an Irish schoolboy (sorry David!) I was walking along the street in Sligo and a group of boys (approx. 10--12yrs old) was coming my way. As they passed me, one of them pointed to his friend and said "Hey, will you be his valentine?" I said "Sure" (in that "what the hell" tone). The one who had spoken perked up and said "Darling girl, I need you". By this time the boys had passed me. I laughed and tossed over my shoulder, "Darling boy, you wouldn't know what to do with me if you had me. Give it ten years." Then his friends started laughing and joshing him. It was all very adorable.

Yeah, I likes me the young, rascally charmers. I miss my fox.

On being away from home--
I feel so out of the loop when it comes to the whole social milieu, in terms of what's going on, what people are talking about and concerned about and thinking about. It's very disconcerting.

On Bookstores--
There's a dearth of bookstores here in Ireland. Also, the stores in Derry have all decided not to shelve their books in any type of genre categories. Now, I understand many of the arguments for and against and about genrefication. I have to say, after trying to root through Fiction A-Z to find books that I'd be interested in, I am a fan of bookstores using a genre system to shelve books. I got really annoyed trying to find books here. It was like trying to find a book at Caveat Emptor. Gah.

On Music--
I've been trying out some new music. I picked up The Corrs, and I really like their stuff. It's more upbeat than probably most of you would like, and its definitely rock with a smidgeon of trad rather than techno or trance, but I really like it. I also picked up a group called (I think) Kila. Bryn, you'd like them a lot. They're kinda modern trad, and very good. I'll let you make a copy when I return.

I have been assured by several different music afficionados that there is no good trance/techno-trad. Ah well.

"On Irish Schoolgirls--"

Hmmmm, suddenly I have a far greater interest in visiting the Emerald Isle.
