Today I saw my first cicada of the season. It was sitting alone on the hood of a car, and looked rather like the guy who shows up to the party, only to discover that it's been cancelled.

I have to say that, as plagues go, this one is pretty lame.

I've had three dead cicadas on my car, but that's it so far.

But me, I prefer a lame plague to a horrifying one. At least if I have to be in the middle of it.

Lame

I was 10 the last time Brood X came through the MidWest. We had to sweep our walk when they died, and *man* did they smell bad!

Wait... did you guys even *have* Brood X where you were living 17 years ago?

I also got really freaked out when walking to a girlfriends house and I was trailing my hand along the hedge-fence only to pull it back *covered* in gross hollow shell things. Ick.

Oh...
My minions are moving. Slowly building their strength in the shadows. Underneath weeds and in the dark recesses of the branches they are changing, re-forming themselves.

They are coming.

Just because it is not there in front of you does not mean it is not happening. Surely, a ninja understands such thinks...

*grin*

you must not have walked through campus this morning. there were cicada carcasses everywhere, and a few twitchers to boot. it was crunchalicious!1

and besides, i think this is called the warning shot. give it another week and we'll see how nonplussed you are then. ;)

the worst summer of my life.

I want my city where they are not really a plague but more of an irritation. My bug phobia will not stand much more than the dead ones I find daily on campus.

I will build a wide brimmed hat with mosquito netting so I can continue to go to school.
