Bride & Prejudice = BEST MOVIE EVAR!!
No, I'm really not kidding. It works on so many levels. Imagine if you will a cross between a Jane Austen Class Comedy/Social Commentar crossed with a Bollywood musical that ends up also being brilliantly postmodern, and that has some of it's own very pertinent postcolonial critiques of neocolonialisms practiced by global corporations. Plus gorgeous costumes, huge dance extravaganzas, love ballads done so ridiculously toungue-in-cheek and yet earnest that you just have to love them and the people who thought them up, painted elephants, and belly-dancing transvestites (I understand that there's a whole culture of ritual transvestism in India, but I know next to nothing about it). Pythia, Prosewitch, Bneuensc, Drydem, anyone else interested in such things, we must organize a viewing party.
I think this movie will be replacing "Bring It On" as my sewing movie of choice. Wow. I haven't seen a movie this awesome in ages!! Perhaps the best movie of its type since Moulin Rouge.
(of course, most people won't like this movie as much as I did. I *am* its target audience, really, but if you like any of the above mentioned things, I would highly recommend it...the scene on the Santa Monica Beach alone is worth it...you'll understand why when you see it).
