I'm not going to write a long post about voting, the flaws with the system, the irony that we are still all agreeing to play by the rules of a rigged game, or any of that. I'm just going to encourage everyone to vote. If you are not voting because you think the game is rigged, because you feel disenfranchised, because you don't like any of the candidates, whatever, then I request this of you:
Do something else.
If voting isn't your thing, I get that. But if putting your feet up on the coffee table and whining about how you don't want to participate in the system because it's messed up is your thing, then all I have to say is that if few things get changed by voting, even fewer things get changed by people who do nothing but sit at home and complain.
There are lots of ways for citizens to take action, both within and outside of the system. I'd request that you choose non-violent action, I'd request that you choose ethical action. I'd suggest that you choose action that has shown itself to be effetive in the past. I'd suggest that you read a book on Zapatismo. Look at what is happening in Oaxaca, in Venezuela, in Ecuador. Now *that's* political change.
I'm turning off comments, because I promised the fox that I would not get too invested in this election and would gear myself up to be disappointed, which will fuck with my brain and put me in a bad place for this week. Not because I'm afraid to discuss any of these points (when have I ever shied away from uncomfortable discussions?). I'll open comments next week, if anyone still has something to say.
